Some of Our Beliefs & Values

Jesus didn’t say “go & make believers” but “go and make disciples” (Matt 28:19) - therefore we place a high importance on the teaching & discipling of new believers. It’s important to us that we don’t simply have good news, but that we are good news...living our lives in a way that is attractive & appealing to those not yet part of the church.

We are particularly moving towards becoming ‘f l e x i b l e church’ - seeking to free ourselves up for the important, not always pursuing the urgent. This has involved a change of mindset, with structures facilitating rather than dominating our program.
We know the Lord loves cheerful giving, and we desire to give generously of the first-fruits of all that we have through our tithes & offerings.
2 Cor 8:7

We don’t ever want to have an island mentality, believing as a small church we are part of a much bigger story and therefore our desire & calling is to always look outward, and to reach out to our brothers & sisters in Christ in other parts of the world.

Our reason for calling ourselves The Bridge Church was....is to bridge the gap between the secular and the religious.... our ethos being to promote non-religious, accessible Christianity that ordinary people can relate to.

We believe in the value of every member playing a part, with men & women working together, serving not only the church but our local community also.
 1 Corinthians 12:27

We believe unity pleases the Lord, and understand that we can’t transform society on our own. As part of the body of Christ we desire unity without uniformity, recognizing our differences and the unique contribution we can all make. Therefore, instead of simply running our own projects we have sought to identify initiatives that involve the island churches working together.

“We believe God believes in people!

Our building is not the church.....we are; hence wherever the people are meeting is a meeting of the church with the express purpose of bringing glory to Jesus.”

Created by The Bridge Church, Hayling Island - Registered Charity No 1085253

We are an evangelical, charismatic church and believe in and value the gifts of the Holy Spirit as being a vital part of our church, and these gifts are reflected appropriately in our worship.
The Bible is central to our lives since it teaches us how to live in a right relationship with God & with each other & contains truth totally relevant to our lives today. God is relational and sets the lonely in families (Psalm 68:6), therefore we value our families, and strive to keep the importance of them at the heart of everything.
